Smoggy Snotrockets

Hate the Dodgers. Hate Puig. Love Bumgarner. Love Bumgarner’s snotrockets. It all balances out.

Here are Madison Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics for Tuesday, September 23, 2014 on the road vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers (eeuww):

  • L, 7.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, 3 HR, 8 SNR (snotrockets): 0 vs. lefties, 6 vs. righties, 2 other. 2 double SNR.
  • Madison Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 6th in which he blew 4 snotrockets.
  • Bumgarner now with 61 snotrockets vs. the Dodgers and 393 snotrockets overall in 2014.

Bumgarner’s last regular start of the 2014 season was to have been this Sunday, September 28. But because the San Francisco Giants will have a 1 game playoff against either the Pittsburgh Pirates or St. Louis Cardinals next Wednesday (please don’t even ask me to explain how the wild card works in baseball because whenever I try to figure it out I get shooting pains in my head) the Giants elected to save Bumgarner for that all important start next week. So we won’t get the chance to see Bumgarner break the 400 snotrocket mark in the regular season. It’s a terrible disappointment, I know, but let’s try to overcome this tragedy and get on with our lives.

Speaking of overcoming tragedy @SanDiegoGiants managed to get some great snotrocket screencaps in Bumgarner’s loss to the Bums. Here’s a nice close-up snotrocket from the 1st inning:

A 4th inning snotrocket:

In the 6th inning Bumgarner noticed a certain someone was in the stands at Chavez Latrine:

Also in the 6th Bumgarner took note of another LA notable in the stands:

Of course it wouldn’t be a Giants – Dodgers series without at least one controversial incident. And it certainly wouldn’t be a Madison Bumgarner start against the Bums without at least one confrontation between him and Yasiel Puig. Back in May of this year  Bumgarner and Puig exchanged pleasantries and Tuesday night they rekindled their friendship with Bumgarner hitting Puig on the foot with a pitch in the 1st inning and then Puig charging the mound and pretending to go after Bumgarner. Because you have to pay WordPress to upload videos and because I’m much too cheap to do that here’s a screencap from that “fight” (you can view a gif of the incident here) :

You can also see the video and read about the incident here.

Madison Bumgarner’s next start should be Wednesday, October 1, 2014 vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates or St. Louis Cardinals (location yet to be determined, either Pittsburgh or St. Louis pending the outcome of this weekend’s game results). See you here or on Twitter  for all the exciting postseason snotrocket action.
