Battle of the Bay Snotrockets

With the San Francisco Giants playing the Oakland Athletics this weekend it gave me the chance to view the game from a different angle. The games have been broadcast locally (Bay Area) on two Comcast Sports Net Bay Area channels, one with the Giants broadcasters and one with the A’s broadcasters. Last night I watched the A’s channel for comparison and I was pleased to see a distinct lack of crowd shots. Oh sure there were a few times when the A’s TV director cut away from the game to the fans in the stands but it never even came anywhere close to the ad nauseum total of crowd shots that the Giants produce every game. How refreshing: a baseball broadcasting team that’s more interested in the game than in the fans. It was great to watch.

But with Madison Bumgarner pitching today this unofficial Mad Bum snotrocket tallier had to switch back to the Giants broadcast for continuity reasons. What a jarring return to reality. The game was of course overloaded with crowd shots: every person wearing a championship foam ring hat, every boat in McCovey Cove, every bride with her bridesmaids, et cetera et cetera et cetera, and so on and so forth blah blah blah WHO CARES JUST SHOW THE GAME. The Giants awful TV director even cut away from the game to show his sister sitting in the stands. Twice. For God’s sakes. His middle-aged sister. WHO CARES JUST SHOW THE GAME.

[deep breath and exhale]

Here are Madison Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics for Saturday, July 25, 2015 at home vs. the Oakland Athletics:

  • W, 7.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 13 SNR (snotrockets): 1 vs. lefties, 6 vs. righties, 6 other. 3 double SNR. 2 at-bat SNR. 1 dugout SNR.
  • Madison Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 3rd in which he blew 5 snotrockets.
  • Bumgarner now with 148 snotrockets in the 2015 season.

Like a true professional @SanDiegoGiants kept his screencapping machine focused solely on Bumgarner and grabbed some great snotrocket screencaps. Here’s an at-bat snotrocket from the 3rd inning:

Another at-bat snotrocket, also in the 3rd inning:

Back on the mound snotrocket in the 4th inning:

A nice clear closeup bearded snotrocket, also in the 4th inning:

And one last snotrocket from a mystery inning:

Madison Bumgarner’s next start should be on Friday, July 31, 2015 on the road vs. the Texas Rangers. See you here or on Twitter for all the exciting snotrocket action.
