Scant Snotrockets

I’ll spare you the suspense and cut to the snotrocket total right now. One. One snotrocket. Eight innings pitched and one snotrocket. Also one run scored by the Giants as once again they couldn’t do much offensively to support a very well-pitched game by their ace Madison Bumgarner. It was a very sad and almost snotrocket-less night. The less said about everything the better.

Here are Madison Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics for Friday, July 27, 2018 at home vs. the Milwaukee Brewers:

  • L, 8.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 1 SNR (snotrocket): 0 vs. lefties, 0 vs. righties, 1 other. 1 at-bat SNR.
  • Madison Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 3rd in which he blew 1 snotrocket.
  • Bumgarner now with 42 snotrockets in the 2018 season.

The lonely snotrocket happened during a Bumgarner at-bat:

That’s it. That’s all I got.

Madison Bumgarner’s next start should be Wednesday, August 1, 2018 on the road vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks. See you here or on Twitter for all the exciting Bumgarner snotrocket action.

Saturday Snotrockets

A bit of a rough outing for Madison Bumgarner last Saturday. Uncharacteristic multiple walks. He just didn’t look himself. It happens. No one is perfect all of the time. Even Bumgarner.

Here are Madison Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics for Saturday, July 21, 2018 on the road vs. the Oakland Athletics:

  • ND, 4 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 6 BB, 5 K, 0 HR, 3 SNR (snotrockets): 0 vs. lefties, 2 vs. righties, 1 other. 1 mound visit SNR.
  • Madison Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 5th in which he blew 2 snotrockets.
  • Bumgarner now with 41 snotrockets in the 2018 season.

Spare amount of snotrockets in Mr. Bumgarner’s latest outing. Here is one from the 1st inning, complete with pie chart stats (snotrocket percentages missing):

A nice double snotrocket happened in the 5th inning. First we have the left nostril being evacuated:

Then the right nostril:

Saturday’s game didn’t have much going for it but we did get a rare treat – the mound visit snotrocket. This one was attended by Buster Posey, Brandon Crawford and Giants pitching coach Kurt Young (still feels weird to not say Dave Righetti). Because Bumgarner turned away to blow his snot (he’s so polite when he has guests on the mound) the snotrocket got cut off by the camera but trust me, it was there:

False alarm:

It’s always a disappointment when there are few Bumgarner snotrockets in a game but what we lack in snotrockets we try to make up for in loogies:

For a brief moment in the 9th inning we had some Giant excitement as Hunter Pence tied the game with a double. He paid tribute to his starting pitcher while standing at 2nd base:

But it was not to be. The Giants came away winless. Mr. Bumgarner did not come away snotrocket-less. Call it a push.

Madison Bumgarner’s next start should be this Friday, July 27, 2018 at home vs. the Milwaukee Brewers. See you here or on Twitter for all the exciting Bumgarner snotrocket action.

Farmer Thick Snotrockets

Something weird happened last night. No, I’m not talking about the snotrockets flying through a cool foggy San Francisco night. I’m talking about the fact that for the second start in a row the Giants scored multiple runs for their god starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner, ensuring for him a rare two-game winning streak. Giants fans have become accustomed to seeing Bumgarner pitch well but with little or no run support and collecting no decision after no decision. But on Friday night everything came together perfectly and we got great Giant pitching, plenty of Giant runs and a Giant victory as a result. So weird.

What wasn’t weird were the snotrockets. No, they were your ordinary, run of the mill snotrockets. Workmanlike, standard and normal. Homespun mucus. Folksy snot. True, not as many snotrockets blown as Giants runs scored but we can’t have everything we want. Just be glad we got what we did.

Here are Madison Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics for Friday, July 13, 2018 at home vs. the Oakland Athletics:

  • W, 6.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, 1 HR, 4 SNR (snotrockets): 1 vs. lefties, 3 vs. righties, 0 other. 1 double SNR. 1 BumHug.
  • Madison Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 1st in which he blew 2 snotrockets.
  • Bumgarner now with 38 snotrockets in the 2018 season.

Last night’s game started off with an important question by Bumgarner’s snotrocket screencapper @SanDiegoGiants:

Snotrocket tallier’s ruling:

In the 5th inning Giants first baseman Brandon Belt paid honor to The Man:

False alarm:

Asserting his dominance:

Stealthy snotrockets:

In the top of the 7th inning Madison Bumgarner got into a bit of trouble, loading the bases with nobody out. He was pulled from the game and Giants reliever Reyes Moronta came in and performed rookie pitching magic, escaping the inning without allowing a single baserunner to score and preserving the chance for Bumgarner to get the win. As Moronta came into the dugout Bumgarner showed his appreciation:

Presented without comment:

Madison Bumgarner’s next start should be the first Giants game after the All-Star break: Friday, July 20, 2018 on the road vs. the Oakland Athletics. See you here or on Twitter for all the exciting Bumgarner snotrocket action.

Furious Snotrockets

The San Francisco Giants scored some honest to God runs for Madison Bumgarner today, ensuring him a rare win, and the Giants fandom could not be more shocked. “What’s this?” we said. “Runs scored by the Giants? In double digits no less? For Bumgarner? Is this real life?” It was. The runs were real, the victory was bona fide and the snotrockets were authentic (if sparse).

Here are Madison Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics for Sunday, July 8, 2018 at home vs. the St. Louis Cardinals (Giants won 13 – 8):

  • W, 5.1 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 1 HR, 1 HBP, 2 SNR (snotrockets): 0 vs. L, 2 vs. R, 0 other.
  • Madison Bumgarner’s most prolific innings were the 1st and 3rd in which he blew 1 snotrocket per inning.
  • Madison Bumgarner now with 34 snotrockets in the 2018 season.

So as I mentioned there weren’t very many snotrockets blown in today’s game but that didn’t stop snotrocket screencapper @SanDiegoGiants from capturing one of them plus other assorted Bumgarner goodies. Snotrocket from the third inning was a special one honoring a guest that was in the Giants TV booth:

I got the only other snotrocket in today’s game, blown in the 1st inning, but it wasn’t a very good one as it was taken from the behind the home plate umpire’s butt. Nevertheless here it is, for posterity:

Bumgarner had some difficulties pitching in today’s game and wasn’t shy about expressing his frustration, with both himself and the home plate umpire. In the top of the 4th inning he gave up some runs to the Cardinals and was most displeased with himself:

I have never seen Bumgarner that angry at himself or anyone before (well, maybe Yasiel Puig). As I mentioned in the above tweet a still image really does not do it justice. You had to see it in motion to appreciate the full on Bumgarner Rage. Thankfully @SanDiegoGiants had his gif machine chugging away and captured the moment in all its furious glory:

In the next inning Bumgarner was upset again, this time apparently showing some frustration with the home plate umpire’s calls:

Mad, raging and frustrated Bum is entertaining Bum and I really wanted to see Bumgarner’s reaction when Giants manager Bruce Bochy walked out to the mound in the 6th inning to pull him from the game. Unfortunately the camera crew that covers the Giants games had other ideas:

Madison Bumgarner’s next start should be this Saturday, July 14, 2017 at home vs. the Oakland Athletics. See you here or on Twitter for all the exciting snotrocket action.

Patriotic Snotrockets

Madison Bumgarner pitched two days before the Fourth of July and he showed his love for his country in the best way possible: blowing a lot of snotrockets. Let us all salute the man for his patriotism. And his mucus.

Here are Madison Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics for Monday, July 2, 2018 on the road vs. the Colorado Rockies:

  • L, 6.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, 8 SNR (snotrockets): 2 vs. lefties, 5 vs. righties, 1 other. 1 mound visit SNR.
  • Madison Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 1st in which he blew 3 snotrockets.
  • Bumgarner now with 32 snotrockets in the 2018 season.

Time for the snotrocket fireworks. As always snotrocket screencapper @SanDiegoGiants cranked out some fine snotrocket screencaps. Here are a couple of snotrockets from the 1st inning. As I mentioned before Mr. Bumgarner is a patriotic man:

Closeups:

I managed to capture a flag-waving snotrocket from the 4th inning:

I pledge allegiance to Bumgarner’s Mucus of the United Snotrockets of America:

Fuzzy jingoistic mound visit snotrocket with catcher Buster Posey standing at attention:

Nationalistic snotrocket from the 7th inning:

Madison Bumgarner’s next start should be this Saturday, July 7, 2018 at home vs. the St. Louis Cardinals. See you here or on Twitter for all the exciting Bumgarner snotrocket action.
