Braves, Birds and Snotrockets

Items in blog post title not listed in order of importance.

Snotrockets were in the air. Birds were on the field. Giants bats were connecting with baseballs. All of the above came together in a magical mixture of excellence and another Bumgarner win.

The San Francisco Giants closed out their 3 game series at home against the Atlanta Braves today. Madison Bumgarner was on the mound. Some good luck charms were behind home plate:

After a while the beneficial birds were on the move:

Later on in the game the Giants exploded with multiple triples and home runs:

Enough with the birds. Bring on the snotrockets.

Here are Madison Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics for Sunday, August 28, 2016 at home vs. the Atlanta Braves:

  • W, 7.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 HR, 4 SNR (snotrockets): 0 vs. lefties, 4 vs. righties, 0 other. 1 double SNR.
  • Madison Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 3rd in which he blew 2 snotrockets.
  • Madison Bumgarner now with 200 snotrockets in the 2016 season.
  • Bumgarner blew his 200th snotrocket of the season at exactly 2:25 PM. It was a double.

With so few snotrockets being blown today industrious snotrocket screencapper @SanDiegoGiants had little material to work with but he made the most of what flew through the air. Top of the 3rd snotrocket:

A crowd-pleasing double snotrocket was blown in the top of the 5th inning. First the left nostril:

And then the right nostril:

As if the snotrockets and fine pitching weren’t enough the amazing Mr. Bumgarner did it once again today – he hit another home run.  All hail Madison Bumgarner. We are not worthy:

So often the truth about west coast night starts for the Giants is this: much of the east coast media is already sound asleep whenever Bumgarner flexes his greatness. So a day game in Atlanta is ever so nice:

Cherry Sundae Snotrockets

Neither rain, nor sleet, nor gloom of night nor heat of a unusually warm May afternoon in the Bay Area will stay Madison Bumgarner from the swift completion of blowing his snotrockets. He’s a professional.

Here are Madison Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics for Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at home vs. the Atlanta Braves:

  • W, 5.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 0 HR, 18 SNR (snotrockets): 2 vs. lefties, 12 vs. righties, 4 other. 1 at-bat SNR. 6 double SNR.
  • Madison Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 4th in which he blew 6 snotrockets.
  • Bumgarner blew his 100th snotrocket of the 2014 season at 12:46 PM (vs. Pastornicky, R). It was a double SNR.
  • Bumgarner now has 37 snotrockets vs. the Braves in 2014.

Right about here would go some awesome snotrocket screencaps that @SanDiegoGiants usually tweets out. But not today:

Tweets-SanDiegoGiants-Missing Snotrockets

Sure, the snotrocket stats are nice but I think we can all agree that the visual stimuli of a Bumgarner snotrocket screencap is like the cherry on your sundae. A little something extra special that makes it that much better.

Madison Bumgarner’s next start should be Tuesday, May 20, 2014 on the road vs. the Colorado Rockies. See you here or on Twitter  for all the exciting snotrocket action.

You’re thinking about snotrockets on ice cream now, aren’t you. You’re welcome.

Bat Flips and Snotrockets

Madison Bumgarner beat the Dodgers, blew lots of snotrockets and gave Yasiel Puig a dressing down for either flipping his bat or taking about 5 hours to round the bases after his home run. If it wasn’t for Brandon Belt’s broken thumb (HBP) it would have been a near-perfect night.

Here are Madison Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics for Friday, May 9, 2014 on the road vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers:

  • W, 8.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 K, 1 HR, 13 SNR (snotrockets): 2 vs. lefties, 6 vs. righties, 5 other. 3 double SNR.
  • Madison Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 8th in which he blew 3 snotrockets.
  • Bumgarner now has 41 SNR (snotrockets) vs. the Dodgers this season and 98 SNR overall in 2014.

In the bottom of the 6th inning Dodger outfielder Yasiel Puig hit a solo home run against Bumgarner. Maybe it was the bat flip or maybe it was that Puig took his own sweet time rounding the bases afterwards. Or maybe it was both. Whatever it was Bumgarner was none too pleased with Puig and let him know it as the controversial Dodger eventually neared home plate:

Image

Nothing much came of the incident though. Bumgarner went back to the mound and continued his pitching excellence. Puig went back to the Dodgers dugout and continued his whatever he does. After the game however Bumgarner explained that it was all a misunderstanding:

So droll.

And now on to the best part of the game: the snotrockets. @SanDiegoGiants did us all a favor and captured some good ones tonight. In the 7th inning:

The 8th inning saw a snotrocket after a Dodger strikeout:

At the end of the 8th an especially fierce-looking snotrocket:

P.S. Dodgers suck.

Sunday Snotrockets

Rest on Sunday? Not Madison Bumgarner. There’s a game to pitch. There’s snotrockets to be blown. Let’s get to it.

Here are Madison Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics for Sunday, May 4, 2014 on the road vs. the Atlanta Braves:

  • W, 6.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, 1 HR, 19 SNR (snotrockets): 5 vs. lefties, 11 vs. righties, 3 other. 1 on-base SNR, 1 at-bat SNR, 2 double SNR.
  • Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 4th in which he blew 6 snotrockets.
  • Bumgarner also had 2 innings (5th & 6th) in which he blew 5 snotrockets in each inning.
  • Today’s total of 19 snotrockets is the most that Madison Bumgarner has blown in a game since 4/5/14 (18 SNR at Dodgers).

Don’t worry, never fear, @SanDiegoGiants came through with some great snotrocket screencaps from today’s game:

A rare on-base snotrocket:

Giants-Bumgarner-Snotrocket-2014-05-04-vs Braves-On Base

And a regular snotrocket in the 6th:

Giants-Bumgarner-Snotrocket-2014-05-04-vs Braves

I wish I could live tweet the snotrockets at every single one of Bumgarner’s snots starts. I try my very best to do this but occasionally I have other, less meaningful commitments (work, family functions) and I can’t watch the game live. Whenever this happens I always make sure to watch the game (and tweet snotrocket totals) later that same day , so as to not miss even one Bumgarner snotrocket and thus keep the snotrocket tallies as accurate as possible.

And that’s what occurred today. I wasn’t able to watch the game live on TV.  Then this happened on Twitter:

Madison Bumgarner’s next start should be this Friday, May 9, 2014 on the road vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers (eeuww). See you here or on Twitter for all the exciting snotrocket action.

I’m Running Out of Snotrocket Titles

Only 5 innings for Madison Bumgarner last night. And a loss. And snotrockets. One out of three isn’t too good but I’ll take it.

Here are Madison Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics for Monday, April 28, 2014 at home vs. the San Diego Padres:

  • L, 5.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, 1 HR, 11 SNR (snotrockets): 1 vs. lefties, 5 vs. righties, 5 other. 2 pre-game SNR. 1 at-bat SNR.
  • Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 1st in which he blew 4 snotrockets.
  • Madison Bumgarner now has 66 snotrockets so far in 2014.

As if the game’s outcome wasn’t dismal enough there was also this:

Double Digit Strikeouts and Snotrockets

Madison Bumgarner pitched a fabulous game today. The Braves could only manage one walk and two little singles in 7 innings against Bumgarner.  He excelled in both strikeouts and snotrockets, reaching double digits in both categories. Atlanta never stood a chance.

Here are Madison Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics for Friday, June 14, 2013 on the road vs. the Atlanta Braves:

  • W, 7.0 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 0 R, 0 ER, 10 K, 0 HR, 14 SNR (snotrockets): 4 vs. lefties, 4 vs. righties, 6 other. 1 double SNR.
  • Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 7th in which he blew 4 snotrockets.
  • Bumgarner now has 22 snotrockets vs. the Braves in 2013 and 163 SNR overall this season.

Once again it pays to follow other Giants fans on Twitter. Thanks to  @maltman2010 for bringing this to my attention. A fantastic gif of Bumgarner blowing a double snotrocket in tonight’s game  ( gif made by @gidget )

Bumgarner’s next start should be next Wednesday June 19th at home vs. the San Diego Padres. See you here or on Twitter for all the exciting snotrocket action.

Indoor Snotrockets

The San Francisco Giants were on the road this past weekend, taking on the Arizona Diamondbacks. Madison Bumgarner pitched in Saturday’s game and got the win. Also, the weather in Phoenix was the usual 179° F so the roof was closed. Indoor snotrockets? Yes indeed.

Here are Madison Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics for Saturday, June 8, 2013 on the road vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks:

  • W, 5.0 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 K, 0 HR, 6 SNR (snotrockets): 0 vs. lefties, 4 vs. righties, 2 other.
  • Madison Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 3rd in which he blew 2 snotrockets.
  • This game’s total of 6 SNR is Madison Bumgarner’s smallest snotrocket total of 2013.

So as noted above this outing saw the smallest total of Bumgarner snotrockets in any one game this season, so far. Granted, Bumgarner did only go 5 innings but he had a shorter outing earlier this season and blew far more snotrockets (05/17/13, on the road vs. Colorado Rockies, 4.2 IP, 15 SNR). What to make of this? Maybe being indoors affected MadBum’s snotrocket total. I knew domed stadiums were evil.

Here’s a closeup:

Bumgarner’s next outing should be this Friday, June 14 on the road vs. the Atlanta Braves. See you here or on Twitter for all the exciting snotrocket action.

Double Blow Snotrockets

I’ve been tallying Madison Bumgarner’s snotrockets for a couple of years now and in his start against the Braves last Saturday I saw something I’ve never seen before. Bumgarner blew a snotrocket once and then immediately blew a second snotrocket from the same nostril. This was unprecedented. I’ve tallied many a double snotrocket blown by Bumgarner (a double snotrocket is one that is blown first from one nostril then the other) but never two from the same nostril. You tune in to a ballgame, you never know what you might see.

Here are Madison Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics for Saturday, May 11, 2013 at home vs. the Atlanta Braves:

  • W, 7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 11 K, 0 HR, 8 SNR (snotrockets): 3 vs. lefties, 2 vs. righties, 3 other. 1 at-bat and 1 double blow SNR.
  • Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 6th in which he blew 3 snotrockets.

Let Saturday, May 11, 2013 henceforth be known as the debut of the Madison Bumgarner double blow snotrocket. We are not worthy.

Bumgarner’s next start should be Wednesday, May 22, at home vs. the Washington Nationals. See you here or on Twitter for all the exciting snotrocket action.

One Loss And Many Snotrockets

Madison Bumgarner picked up his first loss of the 2013 season last night. Not his best game, pitching-wise, but a pretty good game snotrocket-wise.

Here are Madison Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics for Monday, May 6, 2013 at home vs. the Philadelphia Phillies:

  • L, 6.0 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 1 HR, 10 SNR (snotrockets): 2 vs. lefties, 1 vs. righties, 7 other. 1 pre-game and 1 dugout SNR.
  • Madison Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 2nd in which he blew 3 snotrockets.

Bumgarner’s next start should be this Saturday, May 11 in San Francisco vs. the Atlanta Braves. See you here or on Twitter for all the exciting snotrocket action.
